From scenic parks and hiking trails to splash-worthy water fun and family-friendly events, there's always something to enjoy under the summer sun. Beech Creek Botanical Garden & Nature Preserve

Blooming just west of downtown Alliance, Beech Creek Botanical Garden & Nature Preserve is a 181‑acre nonprofit oasis blending lush woodlands, themed gardens, and interactive exhibits. Highlights include the Butterfly House and Raptor Hollow Sanctuary, a nature-themed playground, a zip line, and three miles of hiking trails. 


Hours: Monday - Saturday 10am - 4pm, Sunday 12pm - 5pm.

Stark parks

Stark Parks, the Stark County Park District, offers over 6,800 acres of natural beauty throughout the Canton area, with more than 120 miles of trails, scenic lakes, and diverse outdoor activities. Visitors can enjoy hiking, biking, horseback riding, and even kayaking or fishing at spots like Sippo Lake and Walborn Reservoir. The parks also feature educational centers, wildlife exhibits, and seasonal events like concerts and guided nature walks. Stark Parks has something for every age and outdoor pursuit!

Silver Park

Silver Park is a local gem located just south of State St. in Alliance. Enjoy a quiet stroll around the Duck Pond, drop in a fishing line or a summer show at the amphitheater! Baseball/softball fields, and rolling hills, perfect for a picnic or sledding. There are two playgrounds for the kids, as well as restroom facilities. Often hosting great events, Silver Park is a wonderful family tradition in the heart of Alliance!

Robertson Pool

If you need a place to cool off during the sweltering summer months, Robertson Pool in the Robertson Community Center is close by! Splash pad for the littles to keep them cool, too! The Community Center also features basketball and volleyball courts, along with a concession stand for grabbing a bite to eat. This location also hosts events and can be rented. Contact the Parks Department for more info.

Fun Times Park

FunTimes Fun Park in Alliance, Ohio is a lively, family-owned summer hotspot packed with classic amusements. They offer day tokens and season passes. Packed with attractions like go‑karts, bumper boats, a splash pad, mini‑golf, batting cages, karaoke “dance dome,” roller skating, and a small arcade, nobody will be left out of all the fun. It's an absolute must for upbeat summer entertainment!

Troll Hole Museum

The Troll Hole Museum in Alliance, Ohio is a wild and whimsical tribute to troll lore and nostalgia! Home to the Guinness World Record’s largest public troll collection, with over 8,000 unique dolls and more than 20,000 troll-related items. Tours, led by characters like “Sigrid,” blend storytelling with history, making the quirky collection both entertaining and educational. Visitors can relax afterward at the Grumpy Troll Café, shop for unique gifts, and snap envy‑worthy photos among the rainbow-haired crowd.

Glamorgan Castle 

Visit a castle right in the middle of Alliance! Designed in 1904 by Col. William Henry Morgan, families can explore the old world splendor of this mansion inspired by the architecture of Welsh Castles. Since 2024, The Castle Crusaders welcome visitors for guided tours of all four floors every Friday. Groups of 10 or more may tour on weekdays or evenings and need to make arrangements well in advance. No advance reservations are required for Friday tours. The first tour is at 1:00 and another identical tour is at 2:00.

Noah’s Lost Ark Animal Sanctuary

Noah’s Lost Ark is a non-profit, charitable 501(c)(3) Exotic Animal Sanctuary, located in Berlin Center, Ohio. We are supported by donations, members, sponsors, fundraising events, animal sponsorship programs and admission fees. Our facility is dedicated to providing a permanent safe haven for unwanted and abused exotic animals. One of the few sanctuaries federally and state licensed that offers educational guided tours. Families can see and experience beautiful animals while also knowing that their admission goes towards the feeding and care of these majestic creatures.

Haines House Underground Railroad

History is everywhere. Take your family through an early 19th century mansion that was also a stop on the Underground Railroad in the years before the Civil War. Learn about the history of Alliance, Stark County, and Ohio!


Hours: First Saturdays (10am - 1 pm) and Sundays (1pm - 4 pm) of the month, February through November, or by appointment

Butler Rodman Park

On the western end of Alliance, you’ll find Butler Rodman Park, a playground, softball/baseball fields, volleyball courts, and more! It’s perfect for a relaxing walk or a fun picnic with the family.

Sebring Woods

Sebring Woods is located just northeast of Alliance, situated at the intersection of Courtney Road and North Johnson Road. This 39-acre preserve consists primarily of floodplain forest and wooded wetlands interspersed with open marsh and upland habitats. Sebring Woods contains a 0.7 mile hiking trail, which allows visitors to experience these various habitats and conditions.

McKinley Monument and Museum

The striking McKinley National Memorial is a grand pink-granite domed mausoleum that serves as the final resting place of the president, his wife Ida, and their daughters. Visitors can climb the 108 steps to admire the memorial and surrounding views, explore peaceful walking trails, and enjoy picnic spots on the landscaped grounds. Adjacent to the memorial is the McKinley Presidential Library & Museum, which offers fascinating exhibits, a planetarium, and a deeper look into McKinley’s life and legacy.

Umbrella Alley

If you’re in Louisville and looking for a unique place to see, or sit and have a quick lunch, check out Umbrella Alley! 200 umbrellas above the alley make the whole alley into an outdoor art exhibit, and provide a one-of-a kind photo opportunity. Art lines the brick walls of the alley and changes several times a year, so it’s always worth a return visit.

Mary C. Metzger Park

Mary C. Metzger Park in Louisville, Ohio, is a scenic and family‑friendly community hub spread across approximately 88, generously donated by Mary C. Metzger for recreational use. With new upgrades around the property, soccer fields and baseball fields. Whether you're in the mood for a leisurely stroll or a brisk jog, the park offers over a mile of well‑marked walking and biking trails, including a popular 0.8‑mile route. With lush green spaces, pavilion rentals for larger gatherings, and easy parking, the park is a must‑visit for families, fitness buffs, and nature lovers alike.

Akron Zoo

Price Park 

Price Park in North Canton is a great family-friendly stop boasting a scenic pond where kids can feed ducks, shady picnic spots nestled among mature trees, and a spacious playground perfect for toddlers and older children alike. Salem Parks & Recreation

The Salem Parks System consists of six separate recreational areas which include Centennial Park, Waterworth Memorial Park, Kelley Park, W.H. Mullins Park, Salem City Lake and the Eagleton Glenn Recreational Area. The parks are managed and maintained by the Salem Parks & Recreation Department. Within the park system is a 400,000 gallon swimming pool and splash pad, ten pavilions, eight baseball/softball fields, four basketball courts, six tennis/pickleball courts, three restrooms, three large and several small playgrounds, a 220 acre lake for fishing, a 30 acre nature trail, a dog park, a duck pond, a prairie garden and a band shell that hosts 14-17 outdoor summer concerts yearly. Plans are to include two sand volleyball courts and an outdoor adult fitness center in 2020. Various sports programs, activities (for all ages) and special events take place on a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly basis.

Sluggers and Putters 

Sluggers & Putters Amusement Park in Canal Fulton is a lively 18-acre family playground packed with more than 20 attractions perfect for all ages, like the Twirling Tea Cups , THe Lil’ Dipper roller coaster to high-speed F‑22 Raptor go-karts! Visitors can ride the bumper boats,  or duke it out in Ohio’s largest outdoor laser-tag arena. Little golfers and big kids alike can tackle themed mini-golf courses, while arcade fans and snack lovers enjoy Auntie Em’s food court and ice cream stand. Clean, well-maintained, and family-owned since 1992, it’s a welcoming, nostalgic spot for a perfect fun-filled outing.

Mila's Hope and Rowyn's Dreams Playground

Mila's Hope and Rowyn's Dreams Playground was created to provide an inclusive playground in Portage County, Ohio, for children of all ages and abilities. While the kids are playing, parents and caregivers can take a seat on the shaded benches. Children can even explore a barefoot garden path! Come and explore a playground filled with numerous sensory experiences for every child.

Plain Township Veterans Park & Recreation

As its name implies, 62-acre Plain Township Veterans Park provides a serene place to reflect on the sacrifices of America’s veterans. The Veterans Hillside contains the Keystone Monument, and Gold and Blue Star Monuments, symbolizing the citizens’ gratitude. The park also has a splash pad and playground for young visitors, and a 4-acre dog park for furry companions. Adjacent to the park is Monarch Meadows, 20 acres of wetland that act as a shelter for over 15 species of rare and endangered animals, including monarch butterflies.

Sadie Van Fossan Swimming Pool

The Sadie Van Fossan Swimming Pool in the village of Lisbon not only provides a convenient place to cool off and have fun during the summertime, but also is the perfect place for family gatherings like birthday parties, graduation parties, and family reunions! Just call ahead to reserve the date for your event!

Louisville Splash Pad

Conveniently located within Aljancic Park, the Louisville Splash Pad is the ideal destination on those hot summer days in northeast Ohio. While at the park, visitors can also take advantage of the pickleball courts and the walking trail.

Alliance Dog Park

Dogs are family, too, and they also want to get out of the house for some fun and exercise! At Alliance Dog park, you’ll find the perfect place for your four-legged family member to run and play to their hearts’ content. The park is divided so that big dogs and small dogs each have their own play areas.

Quail Hollow

Quail Hollow Park in Hartville, Ohio, is a wonderful destination for families seeking a blend of outdoor adventure and history. Spanning over 700 acres, the park offers more than 13 miles of winding trails. Anglers will love trying their hand at fishing in the shaded pond with a valid Ohio license, while the playground and picnic areas nearby are ideal for snacks and family downtime. Don’t miss the charming 1929 Stewart Manor House—open for seasonal guided tours—and the whimsical “Wind Phone” trail kiosk for a quiet, reflective moment. Mill Creek Metroparks

No summer would be complete without a visit to Mill Creek Metroparks, located in the City of Youngstown and Boardman Township. Mill Creek Park was established in 1891 by Volney Rogers as the first park district in Ohio. Today visitors can enjoy activities such as hiking, biking, boating, fishing, disc golf, golf, par-3, tennis, volleyball, and more! Lantermann’s Mill gives a window into the past of how a working mill operates, while the Ford Nature Center houses exhibits on the wildlife and history of MIll Creek Metroparks.
