Ohio Program Has Mailed 20 Million Free Books and Counting

At Precious Cargo Preschool & Childcare, every moment of a child’s development matters. From our infant rooms to our pre-K classrooms, our teachers are passionate about supporting the growth of young minds—socially, emotionally, and intellectually. Our team doesn’t just follow lesson plans—they design them with intention. Every day, we observe, plan, and prepare our students to take that next developmental step when they’re ready. That’s why we’re excited to support a program that aligns perfectly with our mission: the Ohio Imagination Library.

WHY READ? HERE ARE THE FACTS:

⭐️ Research shows that a child’s brain is 80% developed before turning three. The Imagination Library’s high-quality, age-appropriate books help children develop critical early literacy skills before starting kindergarten.

⭐️ A child who is read to daily hears up to 1.4 million more words before entering kindergarten.

⭐️ Children with at least 25 books in the home complete an average of two more years of schooling than those with no books.

⭐️ Children who read at home 3 times per week are more likely to recognize letters, count to 20, and write their name before entering school.

⭐️ Reading aloud is widely recognized as the single most important activity for enhancing a child’s language and development.

What is the Ohio Imagination Library?

The Ohio Governor’s Imagination Library, in partnership with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, is a statewide early literacy program that provides a free book each month to children from birth to age five. These high-quality, age-appropriate books are mailed directly to your home—completely free of charge.

The goal? To help every child in Ohio enter kindergarten ready to succeed by building early literacy skills from day one.

Why Are We Sharing This?

Our blog is part of our effort to actively promote incredible resources to all Precious Cargo families. Whether you’re a new parent or getting ready for kindergarten, we want every family to have access to tools that support growth at home as well as in the classroom. Signing up is quick, easy, and makes a lasting impact.

We’re proud to help families enroll in the Ohio Imagination Library. You’ll find flyers in our main lobby and office areas. Or, feel free to ask your child’s teacher—we’d be happy to help walk you through the process and get your child on the path to a home library of their own.

Let’s nurture a love of learning—together.

With each story, each smile, and each step forward, we’re helping our little ones build bright, confident futures.
